2013 Merlot

Medium-dark ruby color. Rich, enticing aromas of cherry, cassis, mocha, oak and a background note of earthy tobacco spice. Ripe, lush palate of blueberry-currant fruit with layers of mocha and dry herb – showing very nice palate texture. The “tobacco” note comes through with some air and the overall structure is fat (but) with medium tannins. Complex Merlot – multi-faceted, showing the best of Penman’s Merlot fruit character. Very “upper-shelf” quality that can challenge Napa-Sonoma Merlots. Extremely drinkable, but that excellent balance, fruit depth and structure will let it improve for 2-5 years.
